Yes, prenatal massage is safe for all stages of pregnancy including first trimester when performed by a registered massage therapist. It is a misconception that massage in early pregnancy causes miscarriage.
Your comfort is our top priority, and we’ll adjust the position to what feels best and safe for you depending on the trimester.
Your session will begin with a brief consultation to discuss your current needs and any concerns. We will position you for comfort, and the massage will focus on areas where you need the most relief. You can customize your session with optional treatments like hot towels or essential oils.
While a doctor’s note is not typically required unless it is required by your insurance provider, we recommend consulting with your healthcare provider if you have any major concerns related to your pregnancy.
Your comfort is our priority. If at any point you feel uncomfortable, please let us know, and we will adjust the technique, pressure, or position. We encourage open communication to ensure your experience is enjoyable and beneficial.

Depending on how you feel and the type of delivery you had. You may be able to start sooner, but it is often recommended to wait at least 5-6 weeks or until your healthcare provider gives clearance. Always consult with your doctor to ensure the timing is right for your recovery and specific needs.

A good time is when your baby is calm but alert, perhaps an hour after feeding or when they’re well-rested. It may vary depending on your child’s unique schedule.
Avoid massage if your child has a fever, infection, or any medical condition that may require a doctor’s approval. Always check with your healthcare provider and a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) before starting if you have any concerns.
The session is a combination of the RMT being hands-on the child and educating the parent/guardian on how to massage their own child.
As part of the session, you will be instructed about the importance of relaxation before starting the massage, asking permission of the infant, and the application of actual massage therapy techniques. Your RMT will discuss items such as positioning your baby, the appropriate amount of pressure to use, direction and speed of strokes, and the application of massage therapy for issues such as gas, irritability, muscle tension, etc.
The RMT will demonstrate all techniques on a doll while you work directly on your infant. If needed, the therapist will demonstrate on your infant directly if this will enhance your learning during the session. Please feel free to ask your RMT any questions that will expand your knowledge in this area.
In discussion with you, the RMT will collaborate on an agreed treatment plan, and be in constant communication with your child/client regarding suitability of depth of pressure, the effect of the treatment, and whether any changes/adaptations are needed to increase the comfort of the child. At any time, the child/client or parents can ask questions or alter or stop the treatment if they wish to do so.
Infants can be dressed or undressed, with a diaper remaining on if preferred.
Initial sessions are usually 45 minutes. Follow-up visits can be 30 minutes, depending on your needs.
It depends on the goals you have and the specific concerns you’re addressing. During the session, you’ll learn techniques to use at home for lasting benefits.
We use safe, organic and edible oils like olive oil or coconut oil. You’re welcome to bring an oil you prefer from home for your baby.
You might want to bring extra clothes or diapers in case of accidents. Comfort items, like your child’s favorite toys, are also helpful and may be used during the session.
If you have an extended health plan from your work, you & your children may be covered for massage therapy provided by RMT. Please confirm with your provider. Note that direct billing is not available; full payment is required at the time of service, and a receipt will be provided for you to submit to your insurance.
I greatly appreciate the thought, but the best way to show appreciation is by returning as a client, leaving a review, or referring others. If there’s something I can improve, I value your feedback. Please feel free to share your thoughts directly with me.
